Function and Mechanism

Tamoxifen Citrate, a Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator (SERM), acts as both an anti-estrogen and an estrogen in specific body areas. It binds to estrogen receptors, especially in breast tissue, blocking estrogen and helping prevent breast cancer progression. For steroid users, this can prevent estrogen-related issues like gynecomastia. Tamoxifen also acts like estrogen in the liver, which can help improve cholesterol levels—beneficial for those using cholesterol-impacting steroids.

Tamoxifen further boosts testosterone by increasing Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH), both essential for natural testosterone production.

Effects of Tamoxifen 

1. Steroid Use: Tamoxifen is valuable for both on-cycle estrogen control and post-cycle recovery:

• • On-Cycle: Helps prevent gynecomastia by blocking estrogen in breast tissue but doesn’t lower estrogen levels overall. If additional control is needed, Aromatase Inhibitors (AI’s) may be recommended.
  • Post-Cycle (PCT): Tamoxifen stimulates testosterone production after steroid use, speeding up recovery. However, complete recovery can still take months, and Tamoxifen alone won’t restore full testosterone levels immediately.

2.  Breast Cancer Treatment: For breast cancer patients, Tamoxifen blocks estrogen in breast tissue, essentially “starving” the cancer. Often used with AIs or as a preventative measure for high-risk individuals.

Tamoxifen Citrate Dosage

1. Breast Cancer: Typically, 10-20mg twice daily, with 40mg daily common in the initial stages. Many patients continue at a lower dose for prevention after remission.
2. Steroid Users:

• • On-Cycle Gynecomastia Prevention: 10-20mg daily. If ineffective, consider switching to an AI.
  • PCT: Typically, start with 40mg daily for 2-3 weeks, then reduce to 20mg for another 2-3 weeks. Many PCT plans combine Tamoxifen with another SERM, Clomid, for optimal recovery.
