Function and Mechanism

Aromasin (Exemestane) is a steroidal aromatase inhibitor (AI) that reduces estrogen levels by blocking aromatase, the enzyme responsible for converting testosterone to estrogen. It can reduce estrogen levels by about 85%, which is valuable for both breast cancer patients and anabolic steroid users.

• Breast Cancer Use: Aromasin helps treat estrogen-sensitive breast cancer by lowering estrogen, which can fuel cancer growth.
• Steroid Use: Many steroids increase estrogen, causing potential side effects like gynecomastia and water retention, which can lead to high blood pressure. Aromasin prevents these effects by inhibiting estrogen production.

Aromasin also boosts natural testosterone production, often appealing for post-cycle therapy (PCT) in steroid cycles. Unlike other AIs, Aromasin has slight androgenic properties and can increase Insulin-Like Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1), potentially aiding in lean muscle preservation during PCT.

Effects of Aromasin

1. Cancer Treatment: Effective in reducing estrogen levels when SERMs like Nolvadex fail, though Arimidex is still more common for breast cancer treatment.
2. Steroid Cycles: Protects steroid users from estrogenic side effects, especially with aromatizing steroids like testosterone or Dianabol, as well as progestin-based compounds like Nandrolone.
3. PCT: While Aromasin can stimulate testosterone production, it’s generally not recommended for PCT. High estrogen suppression can interfere with full hormonal normalization needed after a cycle, making SERMs more suitable for recovery.

Dosage and Use

• Therapeutic: In breast cancer treatment, used after Nolvadex has failed, typically at 25mg daily.
• Performance: Common dosage is 12.5-25mg every other day, with some finding 12.5mg two to three times weekly sufficient. Short-term daily dosing may be used by bodybuilders to achieve a dry, hard look before competition, but prolonged use at high doses should be avoided due to cholesterol concerns.
